The thing no one talks about with childhood cancer is: the fame. The desperate hunger for it slowly invades your insides in competition with the disease that is attempting to annihilate you.

 

Cancer shaped me for better or for worse. She’s So Brave is a memoir that describes my wellness journey as I grappled with identity, mental health, trauma, and belonging into adulthood. I’d earned the glittery, neon badge of “survivor”, but was always ignoring or negotiating my identity as one—something I had to face when, as a married mother of two, I moved back to the community where I tasted celebrity at such a young age.
